That’s what I used to think a million dollars meant. Now, in a nice city a million dollars gets you… a one-bedroom condo—and a Home Owners Association that basically co-owns your freedom. That single contrast is the story of our era: the world doesn’t shift anymore—it teleports.
I watched it happen in real time when I was doing my college thesis on building crop yield prediction models, and it was breaking news that Microsoft had made a billion-dollar bet on this small lab most people ignored. In the same year, GPT-2 dropped—famously released in stages because it was “too dangerous” to release all at once. Back then, we talked in millions of parameters like that was insane. Today, we’re living with trillion-scale open-source models that put serious capability in anyone’s hands.
This is the Age of Intelligence—the alien arrival has already happened. What’s left is how we adapt to this fundamentally new reality.
My background wasn’t “computer kid from day one.” In high school I studied Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology—and I ranked #1 in the 2017 Rwanda National Exams. Then I earned a full-ride scholarship to study Integrated Science in the U.S., with a minor in Agronomy and Bioinformatics. Ironically, my entry into AI started from the opposite end of “cool models”—it started with a boring, practical problem: agronomy prediction software based on fixed formulas, hard-coded in the backend, calibrated over years of field testing… and mostly reliable only on U.S. soil.
Rwanda’s soil and farming conditions are different, and Sub-Saharan Africa has its own patterns and constraints. I wanted a Rwanda-ready version because these models aren’t academic toys—they can save farmers from expensive losses by turning “guesswork + hunch” into data-based decisions in a world where weather and growing conditions can outplay our senses.
At first I assumed my biggest obstacle would be coding, not agronomy—so I started learning prediction modeling in my free time. That’s how I ran into OpenAI (doing these weird but fascinating experiments—like agents learning hide-and-seek) and DeepMind (beating champions across game after game that humans once treated as sacred “machines can’t outthink us” territory). But what grabbed me wasn’t the headlines—it was the process: how these systems are built, improved, and trained. And with my Biology background, I’ve always been obsessed with the brain—how it computes such insane complexity on such low energy.
So the deeper I went, the more one reality hit me: building location-accurate agronomy equations for every region in Sub-Saharan Africa would require massive field calibration and clean, structured data—both extremely hard when farms are remote and data collection is expensive. Then COVID-19 hit, and it became obvious: the old approach wouldn’t scale.
I gave AI a serious chance… and I never turned back. I shifted from “I need a better equation” to “I need to understand the engine of intelligence,” and that’s how I got into Intelligent Systems Engineering.
I always respected AI’s potential—but living through the acceleration is different. Huge investment commitments now land like clockwork—Oracle $300B investment in OpenAI, Microsoft $250B contract with OpenAI, NVIDIA $100B investment in OpenAI, AMD to deploy 6 GW with OpenAI, Meta offering $100M to AI researchers—headlines that used to sound fictional.
Already, the spending on AI infrastructure across this cycle has helped turn NVIDIA from a few-hundred-billion-dollar company at the end of 2020 into a company that even touched $5 trillion in 2025—an era-defining reprice of compute. It’s fast. It’s not slowing down. And the investment energy around AI now feels like a daily earthquake. Billion is the new Million, and Trillion is the new Billion.
This is not our first rodeo though.
We’ve had multiple previous revolutionary technologies that can help us predict how this might potentially pan out. AI is the next general-purpose technological revolution—most comparable to the computer and the internet. And every time we’ve had a shift like this, the real dynamic wasn’t “the tech replaces everyone.” It was: people who reorganized their work around the tech replaced people who didn’t.
The computer didn’t beat accountants—accountants using computers beat accountants who didn’t.
The internet didn’t beat marketers—marketers using the internet beat marketers who didn’t.
AI follows the same pattern with one twist: it doesn’t just move information faster or calculate faster—it can perform portions of cognitive work. That widens the set of tasks that can be augmented (or substituted) across almost every profession. Various estimates put global job exposure around the ~40% range—some roles get amplified, some get pressured. The question isn’t “Will AI impact your work?”
The question is: Will you be the augmenter, the keeper—or the one being replaced by augmenters?
That’s why “keeping up” is not about chasing the newest tool or memorizing prompt tricks. The biggest misconception is thinking the advantage is access. The advantage is structure and scale—an operating system, not a gadget. You don’t win by owning a hammer—you win by being the one who can build houses, towers, and entire neighborhoods faster than everyone else. And if you’re going to build a tower, you don’t start with the penthouse. You start with the ground: proper company formation is Step Zero—the non-negotiable foundation your entire career tower sits on. Without that foundation, your growth is built on personal liability, messy taxes, unclear contracts, and fragile momentum. With it, your output can safely scale: clean separation, clean systems, clean leverage.

The point isn’t a single number like “a million”—the point is that the ceiling keeps rising because the scale of what one person can touch has exploded. If you build for that scale, the math stops being exotic. The people who win this era won’t be the ones who consume the most AI—they’ll be the ones who package, protect, and deploy their work like a real enterprise.
In this new era, every professional must become an orchestrator of AI agents: a team of specialized assistants that automate the tedious, multiply your output, and keep you focused on the decisions that actually move the needle. But here’s the part most people miss: AI is not the moat—supervision is. The input dictates the output, and your advantage lives in the ability to set direction, enforce standards, and correct the work with expert judgment. That’s why the real skill is orchestration: you don’t “use AI,” you manage cognition at scale.
A practical way to lock this in is the Human-First Protocol, a strict order of operations:

But as I continue interacting with this new kind of intelligence, I realize its strength and weakness lies in the type of tasks we hand it.
Explicit knowledge (codified “book learning”) is what you can write down—rules, procedures, templates, definitions, standard operating steps.
Implicit knowledge (tacit knowledge) is what you earn—intuition, strategy, judgment, taste, wisdom—built through experience and consequence.
AI—especially large language models—replicates explicit knowledge instantly and at near-zero cost, but it still struggles with the implicit layer. Automation eats what repeats; that’s the highway—efficient, which means, crowded. Crowded lanes are easy to replace; price collapses where tasks look the same. The work that endures needs judgment, taste, and leadership. Keep those, and AI becomes leverage rather than a rival. You have a choice: stay in traffic, or take the side road. On the side road, tools extend you instead of compressing you. We’ll take the side road—deliberately.
AI will not replace all tasks. It can only automate explicit-knowledge-heavy work the fastest. That means the professional advantage shifts upward: focus on implicit knowledge tasks where AI can assist (augmentation) but not fully automate—because expert supervision becomes each person’s moat. And this is exactly why you don’t need the newest hot model on the market—you need strategic clarity.
